L.J. Kendall Together, Dr Beth Stanwick and her husband and co-researcher, Adam, reached out shaking hands to press the button that would seal them in the lab and prevent their mutated virus from escaping into the world.
But before the circuit closed, the magnitude 9 earthquake struck.
L.J. Kendall I do like comfort and would also love the chance to be healthy and productive for a long time. So I think I'd like to enter Iain M Banks's Culture world, and do what I'm doing now, there.
L.J. Kendall A selection from the 300 now in my TBR piles. Right now I'm reading Half A King by Joe Abercrombie and I want to finish Dawn of the Exile (Mitchell Hogan). But I have some Laurell K Hamilton, Diana Rowland, Ben Aaronovitch and more calling to me. Not to mention the latest Battle Angel Alita graphic novels and some Nick Harkaways.
L.J. Kendall My visit inside the Note Printing Branch of the Reserve Bank of Australia, where, at about 9pm one night, I was taken to the viewing area and shown the massive note printing and despatch area, where a 1.5m on a side cube of $20 notes lay all neatly stacked up.
At that point, a daring raid was not executed!
L.J. Kendall Modesty Blaise and Willie Garvin: even though they were never lovers, the depth and breadth of the characters and their respect and love for each other, proved as they risked their lives time and again, gives their relationship a reality and resonance which for me is unmatched.
L.J. Kendall Pose myself a question or problem for what I need to write, think about it intensely, then distract my conscious mind for 10 mins or longer. Then carve myself some space and sit down and simply start writing: either at the computer, or propped up on a quiet place with an A6 clipboard of paper and my 2B propelling pencil.
L.J. Kendall The ability to capture and share your dreams. The ability to explore strange new worlds. The discovery of new stories.
L.J. Kendall Read, a lot. Write, and let other people review what you've written, and pay attention to what they say. They'll know if something isn't working, but don't rely on their advice when it comes to fixing it.

Pay attention to the words, and their flow, and the sentences, and their flow, and the paragraphs, and their flow, and the movements, and their flow. Understand that it takes time, and effort, and practice.

Read advice from writes whose work you admire. But find your own unique voice and style: learn how and when you can break the rules.
L.J. Kendall For the next week, I'm just working on getting the print editions of Wild Thing ready. After that, I'll be diving back into the sequel (Shadow Hunt). I still have half of the comments from Dave (ThEditors.com) to apply, from when he critiqued what was then a single book, and suggested that the 1st half could form a good book in its own right, if I could flesh it out further. (65,000 new words later, and two edits, Wild Thing was the result).
I've also started writing the 3rd novel in the series.
L.J. Kendall Just by posing myself a question. Sometimes, if I'm facing a difficult plot or scene, I'll first prime my conscious, and then apply https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconsc.... If I need extra emotional priming, for something very intense, I may listen to some appropriate songs.
L.J. Kendall I wanted to create a very dangerous, but very sympathetic character, and the idea of a young female assassin in a near-future that combined science and magic sprang to mind. I asked myself "How could someone like her come to be?" and everything just flowed from that single question.
