My advice would be the following:
-Don't let anyone discourage you
-Don't filter out your truth for others' amusement
-If you want to be taken seriously as an author, mean what you write from the heart, don't rush
-Make a habit of writing nonstop. Anything you're not pleased about, go back to later.

I'm currently working on my second book, which isn't poetry. It is instead a book of motivation, success, leadership, self-actualization, and philosophy titled We Exist For A Reason. It's difficult to place it into a single category due to the themes above that are discussed. I plan to release it March 2016.
