Hi Barbara! Thanks for your question. For me, I think the challenge that keeps me writing short stories is the negotiation between doing too much and doing too little. I've published stories 200 words long, and a couple in the 7,500-word range, and all lengths in between as well. I love finding out just how long a story needs to be, and when I think I've found the story's length, may not fully be able to explain why it's so long, or so short--once it's right, it just feels right.

I've just added a last story to my next short story collection, Nobody Looks That Young Here, forthcoming from Guernica Editions in 2018; beyond that, I've got something of a ghost story going (it feels like a novella), and I'm mapping out a hockey novel, too.
