If I don't know what to write, I find the best way is to go for a walk or run. Let the subconscious do its thing and ideas will come. If the ideas don't come after the walk or run, then I'm probably asking the wrong questions and need to step back a bit.

I had the mental image of a boy flying a blimp across Mars and wondered the why's and how's behind it. The story of Martian Blood and Noctilucents came out of that brainstorm.
