I don't really have one particular hero or heroine in mind when I write. I do often think of various tips from famous authors as I'm outlining, writing, and editing, but not one or two in particular. As funny as it sounds since he's a well known horror author and I write romantic erotica, I often think about things Stephen King says. He has so many great tips for writing in general, despite the genre, that if you twisted my arm for one person, it would be him. (His book, On Writing, should be a must-read for all would-be authors!) Otherwise, it's mostly various tips and tricks from the spectrum of writers that I think about when I write.

Read widely, not just in your chosen genre(s), but in many different ones. However, you should be well read in your chosen genre(s), of course. It helps you stay away from cliches. I also advise picking up a few "how-to" writing books to help you understand what's expected of you in your stories. If you need it, grammar books are very helpful, too! And, of course, have fun!

Writer's block, in my opinion, is the author being lazy. I don't mean that as a put-down or anything, as I often experience it myself. Basically, writing is hard, and takes plenty of critical thinking, which takes effort, and isn't it easier to go watch TV or read a book instead? I most often find that if I buckle down, the writer's block is gone after ten or fifteen minutes. Sometimes it simply takes staring at a blank screen or page for that long. That gets so boring that the ol' brain decides it's better to start writing and deal with the difficulties than continue to be bored!
