Hi, thanks for the question.
I would say it is partly because the characters are so lifelike. You are given insight into the world of the criminals. You will understand why they make the choices they do--not that their reasons excuse them. Nevertheless, the bad guys aren't completely evil, and on the flip side, the good guys have their share of issues as well. No one is perfect, but everyone has choices.
The other reason people seem to be to enjoying the book -- aside from the many unexpected plot twists -- is that I use a lot of dialog. Scenes move quickly and the story unfolds through the unique voices of the characters.
Take a read and let me know what you think!

I am gearing up for the formal launch of my book, Two Dead and Counting, the first book in the Underdog Detective Series featuring detective Jack Kendall.
Jack is an ordinary detective, who specializes in infidelity cases--at least until he stumbles upon a murder investigation that endangers everyone he holds dear.

Never give up! If you enjoy writing, don't stop. Journaling, poetry, stories ... you never know where it may lead. Self-publishing makes it possible for virtually anyone to publish their work.
Great writing is a skill as well as a gift. If you seek to publish for a larger audience, my best advice is to study grammar; learn the rules. What might sound great to you and your friends may not work in the professional world where grammar rules matter.
Understand that great writing means writing and rewriting. The next time you pick up a book, remember. . . every word in it has been selected.
Writing is hard work, but it is worth it!

The best thing about being a writer is knowing that readers are really enjoying what I have written.
I love hearing what people think of certain characters, which scenes they like best, and where they think the story is going (if they haven't finished it yet).
It is nice to work from home and to set your own schedule, but connecting with the reader is definitely the best part of being a writer!

Fortunately, I don't get writer's block. Certainly, some days are better for editing, and some days are better than creating, but editing is creating. I quickly find myself emersed in the world of my characters, and I'm off and writing again!
