J.L. Chan I got the idea for my most recent book from questioning myself, "Why am I writing fantasy if I don't have actual qualities of fantasy like magic and mythical creatures?" Honestly, before I began my novel, I've only been writing contemporary fantasy with a bit of adventure, but I decided to move to general (probably epic one day) fantasy after asking myself that particular question.
J.L. Chan Every time I read a good book, especially those with a lot of world building and imagination, I get inclined to learn from their writing and apply it in my stories. My stories gradually get better as time flies by.
J.L. Chan I'm currently working on the first book of my novel (also my first novel), "Seriquan Magiwarrior — A Brand New Year".
J.L. Chan As an aspiring writer myself, I would tell you to never give up and never deviate from your writing too long. If you do, you'll forget how your story plays out. If you think your writing is bad, don't. Everyone has their tastes and some people may love your stories.
J.L. Chan The best thing about being a writer is the ability to express my story and convey my message to the world. Everyone has a story to tell, whether it be fact of fiction, and within every story is a message just waiting for the author to speak it out.
J.L. Chan Writer's block? That's just some fantasy made up by people. As long as you keep your imagination flowing, your story will go well. The first manuscript you write will always be your draft, and you can always go back and add in details.
