I closed and locked the door after my husband left for the evening, planning on watching a movie while he was out. I heard the door open and it was only when I turned to ask if he'd forgotten something that I realised the back door was still unlocked.

(view spoiler)[It came about after several years of not writing, I'd lost a novel I was very proud of, and it took a while to get back into the swing of writing. I tried a few random generators for some key ideas popping up; a young lady, an older man, and a chase with a historical setting. It turned into a navigator on an air ship helping.... oh wait, no more spoilers that book isn't being done until mid series. Because as I wrote it I realised their tale was part of a greater web, and through much world building and plotting the Last Prophecy was created. (hide spoiler)]

How do you not? You aren't inspired to write, you don't command inspiration it commands you. You're sitting there in traffic and all of a sudden you know how the protagonist is going to get through this bugger of a situation. Inspiration comes knocking at your door at 3am saying "Do we have a story for you!" It hits you in the middle of a conversation and when you scramble for your notebook and pen screaming "Brilliant!!" you are grateful for nearby friends excusing you; "She's a writer, don't worry about it." Inspiration is letting the ideas in and sorting through them all until you find the gems that work, and keeping the others for use later on.

The Last Prophecy Series. All about that I'm afraid but when you have 10 books and 11 novellas to write it becomes a bit single minded. When I need to deviate I am working on a paranormal romance just for giggles.

All the greats say it so it must be true: WRITE! Even if it sucks, so do all first drafts. I've written so many half novels, wrote down ideas, and only acted on a few. Take a notebook and pen with you everywhere to keep track of them, and save the best for the story you want to tell the most. And don't stop writing!

Every new twist, every plot device, anything I can do to shape and change and improve on my original story idea brings me the utmost excitement. I love creating this world and the people in it, and what happens to them. When someone else sees it the way I do? The icing on the cake. I want to tell stories, and have people want to hear more.

Its simple, you take Niel Gaiman's advice and put one word in front of the other. I actually have a blog post I did on the other tricks I use when I am not sure what happens next or my original thought process was too predictable (https://ejdawson.com/2016/06/28/5-tip...).
