I’ve been fascinated by learning disabilities and neurodiversity since university. In my linguistics courses, I had the chance to learn about dyslexia, dyscalculia and other developmental disorders that affects scholastic skills. Over time I grew interested in the topic and did my own research.
For my novel, I wanted the main couple to support each other and help each other grow in an interconnected way, so I thought that a student-tutor dynamic would be perfect. Naturally, I opted for a developmental disability.
I chose dyspraxia because it’s the lesser known of the lot, and I had only seen it portrayed in fiction a couple of times in a very simplistic way. I don’t know if I’ve managed to do it justice - it’s particularly tricky since I don’t have a disability myself so I’ve based my story on second-hand experiences - but I hope my book will at least make readers interested in this topic and inspire them to learn more about this disorder.

Hi, Gee! Thank you for your questions and compliments, and sorry for the extremely late reply! I did take a small break from writing after PINW in order to recharge a little, but I’m now working on a new project, an epistolary novella. It’s YA, queer and features lots of themes that are close to my heart. I’ve almost finished the first draft and I hope to be able to tell you more details soon!
