Candi Lou I have a completely different novel in my head, but I used the world I developed in my head for the unwritten novel to frame Negotiating Love. The world came first (its issues and society are built around genetic manipulation and over population), then came the characters. I plotted the story in my head during my commute to work.
Candi Lou I love stories and making up my own is even better. So that was the initial seed to writing. But the thing that really did it was when I was in the military I was required to attend chemical and biological warfare training. Being horrified at the photos of deformed bodies made such an impression that I had to write a scene about the aftermath of biological agents. That was the start of Second Crop.
Candi Lou I have a full length novel, Second Crop, I worked on here a little there a little for 10 years. I took a break from it and busted out my novella, Negotiating Love on Space Station 43, in 8 months. I'm going back now to edit Second Crop.
Candi Lou Don't quit your day job.

After you've worked on it as much as you can stand, get someone else to edit your manuscript. You won't catch all your mistakes.
Candi Lou Developing stories about characters I want to read about.
Candi Lou I write anyways and go back later to fix it.
