What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Anne K. Ross Great question! I have written a cozy mystery novel manuscript, which sits on my shelf here where I can see it. It's about a young woman who goes to her first writer's conference and ends up solving a murder. I'll get it down and work on it again someday.

Beyond Rainman looks very interesting. I often have to explain to people autism is more than Rainman. What inspired you to begin writing?
Anne K. Ross I've raised a son who has Asperger's, and I wanted to share our story with other parents so they wouldn't feel so alone and to give them practical support. I also wrote it to educate the many professionals who still do not understand the breadth of the spectrum and therefore misdiagnose children and adults. I've heard from parents saying Beyond Rain Man has helped them, and that makes my day. Thanks for asking!

Thank you for writing Beyond Rain Man. I have a 15 year old daughter that was just diagnosed with Asperger's.. She will finally go to Springstone, Laffayette. She will get some support I hope. However, I am very aware that she needs a therapist and a support group outside of school. I am desperately trying to find a good therapist and a group. There is so much but not all good. I live in Oakland, Please, suggestions?

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Anne K. Ross As a school psychologist, I've often been the first professional to identify an autism spectrum in children whose parents have been told (sometimes for years) that their child "has good eye contact" or "is too social" to be on the spectrum. One medical professional told a family, "He's not Rain Man!" after my evaluation showed the the child had Asperger's (or high functioning autism). I've been so frustrated with the professionals who do not understand that autism is a wide spectrum and that no one on it looks exactly the same.

I also have a son (now a young adult) who has Asperger's, and our years of raising him were often very rough on us all. I wanted to write for other parents going through similar experiences so they would know they're not alone. I also wanted to give them suggestions how to get the services their kids need. I wanted to share a personal story and help educate those who work with children on the spectrum.
