Millicent should have been used to the whistling wind rattling the window panes and the creaking bones of the old farm house by now, but it still frightened her, especially when she was alone. She forced herself to look into the antique gilded bathroom mirror to take off the last of her makeup, then gasped--the last breath she would ever take.

I think I would go to Mitford, NC. I would do a tour of the town, with special stops at the Sweet Stuff Bakery and Happy Endings Bookstore, of course! Lunch would have to be at the restaurant downtown with all the gang. Later, I would like have a chat with Fr. Tim, then watch Cynthia paint a new picture of Violet. Sometime during my time there, I would go out to the countryside to visit the folks out there, and then go hiking in the mountains. I do think I'll pass on any caves, however.

I am trying to be realistic knowing my busy summer schedule, but I have some I hope to read: Into the Water; The Whole Town's Talking; Hidden Figures; Vinegar Girl and Notorious RBG. I also cannot wait for the next Jan Karon book to come out this September! Ready to preorder that one.

I once wrote a screenplay for a screenwriting course I took, entitled "Another Me." You see, I am adopted--part of the reason that my main character in the Noted! series is adopted and why there is an emphasis on the subject throughout the book series. I had wonderful adoptive parents who adopted me when I was five months old. I am not certain where I was before that time. I know I was very small when I was born, and unlike today, neonatal care was not as wonderfully developed. I have always wondered if I was in a hospital or at a foster home during that period of time. Of course, there is also the normal curiosity of wondering about my biological parents, their stories, how their lives turned out, and if I have any half-siblings out there somewhere. I sometimes ponder if it would be a good thing to meet them or not. I also think often about how my own life would have turned out if they had not given me up for adoption. I've been very blessed, so I sometimes wish I could meet them and thank them for the loving family and the opportunities they unknowingly gave to me.

Father Tim and Cynthia in Jan Karon's Mitford series books. I love their honesty, their deep faith, and their respect for one another.

I went to a "Weekend with your Novel" weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I fully intended to write a novel based on the true story of how my parents met during WWII. Instead, some names came to me and I wrote them down. An interview I had read about with a former actor who had fallen on hard times, also influenced me, and his story led to the creation of "John." A post my daughter put on social media with a picture of a wall of notes in Hong Kong really impressed me, and seeped into my subconscious, I think. I was moving at the time I wrote this, and I think that might be why Jillian was making a move. Also, my daughter was on the other side of the world on a Fulbright Scholarship. Our only communication was through video chats, just like Jillian and her daughter. I am sure all these things had something to do with it, otherwise, I am still "mulling it over," as I continue the story of Jillian and talk with people about NOTED!

By reading good books and watching well-written movies or television shows. Good acting comes from good writing, and it makes me want to tell stories. Also, my work with people in churches, hospitals and nursing homes, gives me inspiration every day as well.

I just finished edited the second and third books in this series. Now I am just beginning book four. I have written an epilogue, and will decide at the end of this next book if there will be another in this series, or if I should embark on a new project.

Don't wait until "someday" --- it might not come. I volunteer as a hospice chaplain. Often I see people who never dreamed they would find themselves in the positions they are encountering. Seeing these situations was a real wake-up call to me to get to the things I wanted to say, and the things I wanted to do--in this case, write and publish a book.

"Meeting" and developing characters who become very real to me. I miss them when I am not writing, and I look forward to discovering what they will do next.

Quite frankly, I never experienced any while writing NOTED! I had more trouble getting myself to stop writing, than to write. That's how I ended up writing two more books that will be a part of the series. Watch for number two this fall!
