Charles Martin Read. And write. And read something else. And write some more. Keep reading until you have an idea worth writing about, and keep writing until you have an idea worth reading. Then be persistent in your submissions; everyone gets rejected, so shake it off, take any criticism to heart (sometimes criticism is good!), and keep submitting.
Charles Martin Not having to leave my house when it's nine degrees. :-)
Charles Martin Reading. And more reading. I spend a great deal of time reading both the Bible, and myths from around the world. As a result, I come across bizarre and unusual parallels and, if they turn out to be global myths, I tend to run with it. But what really drives me, more than anything else, is to let people know that believing the Bible isn't a matter of intellectual laziness, but quite the opposite. When we take into account the global nature of Flood stories, Tower of Babel stories, stories of the Nephilim, even the striking parallels between different creation stories, it's actually much more difficult - intellectually - to dismiss the Bible, because all "refutations" have serious shortcomings. I want people to understand that the believing the Bible IS based on faith, but it is not based on BLIND faith.
Charles Martin I'm currently polishing up a more grown-up version of Giants, I'm working on both a children's version and an adult version of Tower of Babel mythology, and I'm also dabbling in some music compositions. I've actually got a great deal of music right now that I've finished, but I'm letting marinate for a bit before I move forward with it.
Charles Martin The short answer is that I walk away and work on a different project. When ideas start to generate again, I go back to the "problem" area. As a result, I sometimes have three or four projects going on at once (which is part of why it takes so long to finish something!). Perhaps one day I'll become more efficient at it, but until then, it works for me.
