Fay Risner The great mystery in my mother's family was the disappearance of an aunt close to my mother's age. Shortly after she married she and her groom were never seen again. Her family always thought the husband killed his bride, but they didn't know why he would. They were sure if she was alive she would contact her family sometime. I'd love to do a story about that with my own imaginary ending.

Fay Risner So far I have never experienced writer's block. I have four file draws full of ideas for books. Each file has a prospective title and notes so I can pick one to work on when my last book is published. As I am working on a book, I do a lot of research on other stories and put the notes in the files. Sometimes, I come across something in print or online and think that would fit one of my stories and make a note of it for a file. So I am always planning way ahead.
My method of writing is to start typing what is in my head about the story from beginning to end. I go back and put in details and fill in the blanks. This works for the National Novel Writing Month contest in November. I have entered several times and have been successful at making it over the 50,000 word deadline. From November until January and the book is edited and published and then I am working on another book right away.
Fay Risner I like hearing someone that hears my name say "Oh, you're an author." It has taken quite a few years to get identified with that title.
The best thing for me though is the fun I have writing my books and the thrill of holding my creations in my hands when the books are published. I write books that I'd like to read, knowing that they might never be best sellers, and I do that because it is fun for me to bring those characters and stories to life. The icing on the cake along the way is when I see a review that tells me I'm not alone in liking the books I've written.
Fay Risner A true writer is one that eats, lives and sleeps writing. You should be watching people to find characters you like. Researching details for story lines. Have someone that can advise you on your story's direction and how to make the characters seem real. Writers Workshops are great. Look for sites online that help with to make writing better.
Fay Risner Next book out is The Doubting Thomas. That is next in the Nurse Hal Among The Amish series. Emma Lapp is trying to plan her wedding and everything is going wrong. She starts thinking that the wedding isn't meant to happen.
Also, I am working on a non fiction book about my husband as a cancer survivor and me as the caregiver.
Fay Risner A very important woman to me was a former teacher that gave writers workshops in the local library about twenty five years ago. Reading books was nurtured by my parents from the time I could read. Sometimes I'd read a book and think I could write one like that, but where to start? The writers workshops was the answer. For years, the former teacher kept me on track by looking over my manuscripts. She encouraged me all the way and taught me what I needed to know to write a book. She didn't let me get discouraged and quit.
Fay Risner I've always got one or two books going at the same time. The different series I write get easier with each book since I know the main characters so well. Sometimes I want to write something entirely different. Christmas With Hover Hill was that - a romance, humorous and small town in Iowa combination. This started out in a contest as a short story. I'd seen robots such as Hover Hill but not with human features like Hover Hill.
I'm always taking pictures that might work on a book cover and had been itching to use the Cinderella Coach. So I expanded the short story to a book which included a very obnoxious robot, an English professor that didn't want anything to do with men, a handsome farmer and the Cinderella Coach. Several of my ideas have come about as a way to use a picture I have taken on the cover of a book
