I only came across your book because Brid Brennan read it via Audible. I so love the way she delivered Milkman that I trusted her to read another good book . I was so right to do so! I find it hard to find books I want to read and The Lonely Life of Biddy Weir was superb. I wish it were easy to access such good writing. Anita Brookner has been my favourite writer for decades but I now have Anna Burns and you?
Lesley Allen Hi Susan. I can't tell you how happy your comment has made me - to be even mentioned in the same breath as Anita Brookner and Anna Burns is a compliment beyond my wildest dreams! I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed listening to Biddy, and agree that Brid Brennan's narration is exceptional. Her delivery is, in my opinion, completely perfect and she nails every single character. I've always loved her work, so to have her read my story was the cherry on the icing!

Lesley Allen Hi Tim. Thanks so much for your lovely review - and for this question! You're right - I did want the reader to know there was some light at the end of the tunnel for Biddy. Her torment is so relentless that there had to be the promise of hope. Also, as the book starts with adult Biddy making her life-changing phone call, the reader knows from the outset that she survives the horror of her childhood. I really appreciate you not just reading the book in the first place, but taking the time to post a comment and ask a question. Thank you!
