Heaton Wilson For me, the best bit is when your main characters become real to you, and you can see them in your mind's eye, and understand how they will react to situations. It's the best thing in the world when you realise you've completely forgotten about yourself and the dialogue is all theirs!
Heaton Wilson By not trying to write! It's good to have a break sometimes, so I will either go and catch up on DIY or gardening, or walk the dog - anything that occupies a different part of my brain.

Heaton Wilson I've always been fascinated by the effect that technology has on our lives, positive and negative. So many of us are confused and scared about computers, so I wanted to play with the idea of a son and mother, previously very close, who end up apparently divided by his IT expertise.
In Whatever It Takes, the son, Jamie, is murdered because of that skill and
its down to DCI Jane Birchfield - who is something of a technophobe - to work out why...
