R.A. Crawford I was reading the Omega Force series by Joshua Dalzelle and intially thought, 'Hey I'd love to write my own story about a ragtag group of space-faring defenders zooming around the galaxy.' So I started to write notes and come up with my own idea. I'm not entirely sure where the idea of an all-female galactic society came from originally, but it seemed to gel naturally into the story I was trying to tell. From there everything came together bit by bit.
R.A. Crawford I let everything I read and watch inspire me. Books, TV, Movie and video games. There is so much original content to absorb. Whilst I enjoy those forms of entertainment, 50% of my brain is working to concoct my own devious idea from the pieces I've been seeing.
Video games in particular do a lot for me. Often one of the most underestimated formats of story-telling, I've experienced some truly heart-felt and well written moments with a controller in my hand. Every time I play something new it stirs new ideas in me.
R.A. Crawford Open up a word doc and start typing. Well, obviously spend a little time thinking first, but the most important thing is to just start writing. Let the words flow. It doesn't matter whether they make any sense or not at first, or even if anybody would want to read them. It only matters that you start the process of constant improvement. Plus the more you write the more ideas you have. A truly virtuous cycle!
R.A. Crawford The best thing about being a writer is letting my creative side takeover. For years I've kept my imagination locked behind closed doors in my mind, but finally I'm letting the page in front of me absorb my ideas!
R.A. Crawford I'm currently working on the sequel to my debut PULSE: The Trial - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ARN54JG
It's titled, PULSE: Moonlighter. While the first book served as an introduction of several young human girls into the all-female universe of PULSE, this book catapults the reader deeper into the mythology and takes our heroines on an adventure amongst an alien female crew, a mysterious and terrifying remote planet and the threat they still face from the male race.
As usual it will be packed with thrilling action and driven by powerful leading female characters. It's been a much larger and more difficult ensemble tale to tell, so I'm hard at work trying to nail down the scale of the conflict and juggle the new cast members. But I'm loving the challenge so far.
