Read. Write. Finish. Learn. Read the best possible books you can get your hands on, and pay attention to why you like what you like. Seriously--make a list! Do you like pirates, bunnies, humorous best friends? Throw those in your book. Remember that every single character in your book should want something, and a bunch of them should want things contrary to your main character. Write, write, write...and finish. Finish your stories. You will learn more from finishing one novel than from starting twenty of them. Learn from people better than you, but trust yourself.

I think that writer's block is just fear--fear that I can't write the story I want, or fear that people won't like it. But then I remember that no matter how much I love a certain novel, there are those who really dislike it. So in the end, I just try to write the best books I can. And for the days when it does feel a bit like pulling teeth, I use the awesome writers' game 4thewords to make it more fun!

I am currently working on another YA Fantasy novel set in the same world as A Sharpened Axe. I am very excited about it, and can't wait to get it out to readers! The working title is A Heavy Hammer.
