My best friend and I came up with the idea in her backyard when we were little, and I just happened to be determined to put it down on paper.

Music. Lots and lots of music. Mostly film scores and trailer scores, but even some heavy rock. Music and a good walk outside, it jump starts all the ideas that have already been putting themselves together in my mind. Or if that doesn't work I do a massive amount of reading, which usually leads me back to writing. (But I never read and then write. I always write and then read.)

Never give up your imagination. Never be afraid of your imagination. And if you know you are meant to write, write. If not for others pleasures, for yourself.

The best thing about being a writer is that no matter what happens at the end of the day you have a whole other world to fall back into. You have the power to craft a different story for yourself with a few words. It's its own form of therapy that helps one get through the trenches of reality.
