I'm sure all writing helps. I believe the many years spent as a copywriter also deserve a high five. The devotion to brevity, seduction through simplicity and avoiding boredom at all cost, it’s been tattooed into our systems for posterity. Truth be told, when it comes to screenwriting, I do love dialogue. I subscribe to the Aaron Sorkin school of thought: "I consider plot a necessary intrusion on what I really want to do, which is write snappy dialogue."

If anyone decides to mess with you, you just kill them off...in your book :). That's the oldest one, of course. For me personally, I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't tell stories. If I couldn't live out my imagination. If I couldn't spend most of my life marvelling at the magic of words.

I've spent many years in advertising, it's a great training ground to be creative while sticking to deadlines. It doesn't give you a chance to indulge in a writer's block beyond a point. May be that's why I totally buy into what Nora Ephron (or was it Nora Roberts?) said, “Every time I hear writers talk about ‘the muse,’ I just want to slap them. It’s a job. Do your job.”
