You know, I've been blessed in this area, haven't had many blocked days. But I follow the advice of the inimitable Stephen King and write one day, revise the next. If it's feeling stale, leave it. I always find that when I go back to it the next day the fresh ideas flow.

The idea for In Robin's Nest began with a documentary about my favorite band, The Eagles. The first time I watched The History of The Eagles on Showtime, I was riveted by concert footage from 1977, from the Hotel California tour in DC. A girl in the front row with Farrah Fawcett waves and wide-legged jeans was perched on her boyfriend’s shoulders, her face particularly luminous and arresting. She could have been me in the late seventies. I thought: Who is this woman today? What if she (now my age) is watching and unexpectedly sees herself immortalized on film at twenty-one? I began to daydream about her and what her story might have been. And ROBIN HAMILTON came to life.

A coming of age story about a thirteen year old girl growing up on the campus of an all boys' school in 1970-1971. It is in turn poignant and hilarious. I crack up most days while writing scenes.

Write every day. The more you write the easier it comes. A pianist practices the piano every day.
