P. Gordon Judge Antibiotic resistance is a problem that might be classified as a ``sleeper''. I would like to draw attention to this issue. I am also worried about the amount of time spent by the modern generation with their ``devices'' and wonder about their sociological effects. Both of these modern issues make, I think, a nice narrative, as people become more and more separate from one another, through simple over-indulgence.
P. Gordon Judge I sleep on it. Being a professional scientist who loves to write, I can put the book aside for several weeks without worrying. Worry is a destructive force. I was lucky to fight my way back from the brink many years ago, this also helps bring perspective and reduce worry. In periods where I have difficulty, I look around me for examples of human behavior that I can use, both good, and bad, admirable or despicable. Mostly I find inspiration during these block periods. A good book plan makes it easier to see things that might be useful.
P. Gordon Judge ``You have reached your destination'' takes a satirical look at our increasingly isolating society, postulating a future of failed antibiotics and personal technology in which individuals communicate mostly by texts, images, through advanced electronics. The narrative plays on word meanings, highlighting function and dysfunction in ancient and new worlds, through a freak accident. Humor, disaster, hope, integrity, violence, love, all follow the remarkable life and re-birth of Jane Harmon, inventor of the universal "Harmon device".
P. Gordon Judge I look for issues I think important in the modern world, issues affecting future generations. I have written about the changing climate, a terribly worrying problem, and the upsetting and irrational skepticism of science and knowledge, even the meaning of "facts". I want to make a difference for the children of the future, I want to offer a readable scientist's perspective, to offer hope and understanding for the sake of the children. I try to write with humor and hope, I believe that the poor and innocent will face the greatest threats, but that they also will offer the greatest hope for the future.
