Chevelle Allen Nicole,

Please forgive the delay in responding.

What I love about writing is being able to free my imagination and explore the human condition. I'd like to think that's one of the things that sets my work apart especially in the erotica/romance genre.

I want to create characters and narratives readers relate to on a visceral level. I want readers to be able to easily imagine themselves in these stories while exploring their own beliefs and world views.
Chevelle Allen I'm not sure I can answer this... primarily because there are a number of fictional characters that intrigue me. the greatest characters are those with equal depth for the male and female protagonists, power, self awareness even if they're deliciously wicked... so with that perhaps Antony and Cleopatra; Sampson and Delilah, Michael and Janine! LOL
Chevelle Allen Honestly, I was enjoying fabulous wine with a group of friends during a visit to Manhattan and I got completely distracted. I noticed a man and woman who had a chemistry that was palpable and yet, they didn't seem to be 'a couple.' I watched the way they looked at each other and the subtle exchanges between them. My imagination went wild imagining a backstory for them. One idea led to another. As the story took shape, I realized that I really wanted to tell a love story that accurately and loving portrayed true BDSM practitioners.
Chevelle Allen I'm actually taking a break to promote the books. But I've been jotting notes and ideas in preparation for a period piece set on the eve of the American Revolution. I'm also working on a piece I'm tentatively calling Catch and Release. It'll be a first-person perspective about a woman who wholly owns her sexuality and pursues partners for the fun of it-but that has consequences-for her and them. My website www.chevelleallen.com has a section that lists future titles/concepts that are in "my queue."
Chevelle Allen Just write. Find time, whether its five minutes or five hours-write. This is how you hone your skills. Even if you don't sell a single book, you must embrace your craft. Strengthen the areas of weakness and celebrate your strengths. But more important, be prepared to listen so that you can find your own voice.
Chevelle Allen Creating a familiar world with relatable characters that share a common emotional space with the reader. Even in the most escapist genres, we should see our truths and our struggles. Writers can provide this.
Chevelle Allen I focus on the emotional space I'm trying to capture and step away from the actual writing. Once I've solved that problem, I listen to music that best captures the mood or sentiment. And I let the characters or scenario form until I'm ready to write again.
