Consuelo Roland It's a narrow bookshelf so I ask myself if I would be prepared to lose a limb to have written that book. Many don't make it.
Consuelo Roland The best part is having the power to create a totally new world populated by fascinating 3-D people who live for me but are invisible to everybody else. The novel I am busy with is the one place where anything can happen; there are no restrictions except the limitations of my own imagination and of language itself.
Consuelo Roland My problem is rather the opposite; an excess of story lines hustling for my attention and distracting me.

Consuelo Roland Volume III in the Limbo trilogy.
Consuelo Roland Real life with all its quirks and curiosities, and its eccentric characters, inspires me to write. Curiosity drives me; all the parallel dimensions of reality, the lives I can never live but only imagine, the intricacy and complexity of connection, the tumultuous emotional life that lies hidden in others.
Consuelo Roland The Limbo trilogy was inspired by a story my mother brought back from her travels. Her flight from Milan was re-routed to Paris due to a lightning storm. A stylish ground hostess was tasked with helping her to locate an item of lost luggage. They connected and were soon chatting like old friends. The young Frenchwoman let it be known that she did not plan on ever getting married. My mother, a traditionalist, chided her, saying it was all very well to be such a modern, independent woman but what about children? My mother's new friend had laughed and said that she kept a telephone number in her little black book. It belonged to an organisation in Belgium, where one could go with a real man who was superior in every way, and she would have a child in that way.
