Doing it where and when you please. That is not to say you can be undisciplined. On the contrary, it is necessary, I think, to discipline yourself to a forced x number of hours each day. Otherwise, you will get nothing done. But, you can do this anywhere, whether it is in the heart of Manhattan, or on a beach in Thailand.

"Writer's block", as people like to call it, is nothing more than a bout of laziness or distraction by other pressing matters in the writer's life. We all experience it, but the key thing is to not allow it to cripple your writing. I find that the best way to deal with it is to force myself to sit down and write for "x" number of hours each day. Sometimes, I start the hours with a block, and nothing comes out at first, but if I don't allow myself to get sidetracked, surfing the internet, etc., and insist on just writing or sitting there, sooner or later the block will disappear.

Don't write something just to stroke your ego in order to be able to say "I am a writer." Instead, write about things you feel passionate about. Force yourself to write a certain amount of time everyday, whether you want to or not.

It is easier to watch TV or read something someone else has written. However, because I am driven to express myself, I force myself to write a certain minimum amount of time everyday, regardless of whether I feel "inspired" or not. Hopefully, after I begin to write, the inspiration comes to me.
