For me, personally, I think the best thing I can think of about being a writer is being able to convey to the world how I feel. I love when that also translates to people feeling validated, or if somehow speaking my truth causes someone to have hope or to laugh or even to cry. Words have power, and writers wield them with a deft hand.

For me, there's no one way to do it. I just try different things until it sticks. I may take a long walk, I may watch a movie or read some books, I may just let the manuscript rest for hours or days or even work on something else.

A decade ago, I was in Montpelier, Vermont and thinking how the old buildings were still there from the 1800's. Then I thought how interesting it would be to write a shared setting between multiple writers, so I created a post-apocalyptic future in which solar flares had wiped out technology and reverted us to the wild west in terms of the level of technology and society.
