I'm a keen amateur genealogist and I have uncovered some very interesting characters in my extended family tree. Several of their stories would make good plots for a book. All I need is time to write them :)

This was a tough question for me to answer! It would have to be Mary Yellan and Jem Merlyn from Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn. The setting is so atmospheric and Jem suits that landscape perfectly, whilst Mary is the classic heroine you want to root for. Thank you for asking such a wonderful question. I wanted to write a book about someone who has hidden depths - the idea came from someone I used to say hello to every day on my way to work. One day I spotted them reading a French language newspaper and I was intrigued. I didn't know them well enough to ask them about it so I spun it into a story instead.
