How much of the Wirtschaftswunder do you think was more or less inevitable (already trained workforce, solid infrastructure in place, established industrial culture), and how much was it a function of a few driven entrepreneurs or politicians? Thanks, Jonatan
Christoph Roser Hi Jonathan, I am not quite an expert on the Wirtschaftswunder. But I agree with your three points. I would also add, that a crisis helps with change. A German or Japanese after WWII would have to either work hard or to starve. Additionally, a lot of the German industry equipment was taken by the allies, and Germany had to get new equipment. Hence, even with the additional expense, we had modern gear instead of outdated stuff.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Christoph Roser I was always interested in the history of technology. I started the book out of love for the topic, and have learned a tremendous amount myself by writing it.
