Mike Nemeth Great question! I mention that Randle closes heavy curtains to hide the broken window and then … it is forgotten. Maybe he left it that way in case his brother locked him out again?
Mike Nemeth I'd travel to Max Perkins' office and meet Hemingway, Fitzgerald and Wolfe and hope their magic dust would rub off on me!
Mike Nemeth Just read "A Man Called Ove." Nice, but the movie told the story more efficiently. Just bought "Into the Water" by Paula Hawkins (The Girl on the Train). Looking forward to it. Also reading non-fiction. "But What if We're Wrong" by Chuck Klosterman. Intrigued by his notion that what we believe today will be disproved tomorrow just as we've disproved what was believed 100 years ago. So, don't get too attached to today's conventional wisdom!
Mike Nemeth Hi, thanks for the question.
How to deal with end of life, the medical ethics, available life extension treatments, getting affairs in order, mourning and grieving have always troubled me. How I will deal with this is a mystery at the moment.
I have used these issues as the basis for my next novel due for release this next winter. We haven't finalized a title. Of course, I make it a thriller with the protagonist solving what no one else suspected was a murder.

Mike Nemeth Kate and Dexter Moore in "Expats" by Chris Pavone. They are an extreme case of keeping secrets in a marriage and yet protecting each other out of love. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it.
Mike Nemeth Fortunately, writer's block has not been an issue. I plan my books in advance so always know what's coming next. Then I imagine the scene fully in my mind before writing it. Hemingway's advice is also useful: always stop work before completing a known scene so that you can start work the next day by completing something you already know.
Mike Nemeth The best thing about writing fiction is that you can make your stories turn out any way you wish.
Mike Nemeth Make sure you have a couple of people in your life who champion your writing, keep you motivated and feeling good about your work.
Mike Nemeth A second novel I call Absolved. It is far more personal and emotional, about a man's search for identity as he confronts family crises.
Mike Nemeth I've been blessed with a long life filled with rich experiences, both good and bad, that are material for my books.
Mike Nemeth I've long been aware of the difference between justice under the law and fairness in a specific instance. Lady Justice is blind so she relies upon her human practitioners - judges, lawyers and cops - to deliver a good result in a specific circumstance. When they get it wrong, everyone is defiled. I used divorce as the example because it is a common experience for many people.
