J.M. Moore Luckily, I have not had to deal with writer’s block. I do not force myself to write. I let it happen. I write when I feel compelled to write. Writing because I 'want to' and not because I 'have to' is what makes writing fun and enjoyable for me. That is why when I was in college, I did not want to major in the subjects that I had a passion for like art and writing. Being forced to do things I enjoy, takes the passion out of it and can cause resentment. That was a sacrifice I was not willing to make.
J.M. Moore When I am speaking to someone face to face, I sometimes do not precisely convey what I am thinking or feeling. Once the words come out, there is no taking them back. When I write, I have the control to perfectly express to the reader, exactly what I intended. Having the ability to transport the reader to an alternate reality, even if for a moment, is a wonderful gift to have.
J.M. Moore Face your fears. Try writing about a topic that scares you or bores you. When we learn new things we create new neural pathways in our brain, and who knows, it may even help with writer’s block! Challenging ourselves is the only way to see what we are really made of. You may come to find that there are aspects in those topics that can be altered to give them a more interesting angle and who knows where that path can lead to.
J.M. Moore I would like to write a second part to The History of the Barclay Hotel which elaborates on the things that happened to me during the seven years I was living in that hotel. Things that were spiritual and supernatural in nature, events that were devastating, as well as moments of triumph.
J.M. Moore I am always inspired to write, so long as it is something good. I know that it's good because when I am writing, it's like I have a secret that I just can't keep to myself. I think about the topic constantly and cannot focus my attention on anything else. It feels as if I have to get my thoughts out on paper in as much detail as possible. I breathe a sigh of relief when I am done writing. It's like a weight has been lifted from me because I got the 'secret' off my chest.
J.M. Moore I am a former resident of the Barclay Hotel. I lived there for seven years from 2005-2012. One day I was in the elevator trying to get to my apartment on the 5th floor, when I accidentally ended up in the basement. I found that very odd because a key needs to be used in order for the elevator to open at the basement level. Nevertheless, the door slowly opened and there I stood, exposed to its dark chill, hearing the deep hum of the furnace and seeing at the corner of my eye, the shadow of a small unidentified animal scurry to a hiding spot. I was overcome with a feeling deep within myself warning me not to step foot off of that elevator and into the basement. I yielded to the feeling and immediately pressed the 'up' button in order to get to the safety and comfort of my own apartment. It was then that I knew that something not so pleasant happened in that basement and that is when I started my research on the hotel to find out what events took place there.
