N. R. Cruse Write because you love writing.

Read a library full of books, then decide why it was you loved your favourites. Figure out how to make some of that magic come alive in your own work.

Write scenes when they first come to you, in any form they first come to you. Refine them later. In the moment, they have a beauty and magic which is important to capture. If you can only write key words and phrases, do that. Trying to revive a scene later on can feel forced and stale, and the unique language living in the moment is hard to retrieve afterwards.
N. R. Cruse Entertaining yourself, even if you don't entertain anyone else!
N. R. Cruse I write myself a series of questions about what I am trying to achieve with a certain scene. I have even had some success writing a scene backwards, so that I could start with the desired result and then see how to get there with dialogue. If it is really unremitting, I turn my thoughts away entirely, and come up with an unrelated idea, which more often than not, can be combined with the area I am struggling with and suddenly, new ideas flow. Also, walking, walking, walking!
