It's just there. I have been driven to write for decades. Part of my "outgrowing" my dyslexia and Asperger's involved reading a lot of texts (and computer journals), reading a lot of leadership books, reading my favorite authors -- and trying to mimic them. I was in my early 50's when things finally "clicked," and I could actually sit down and read as well as "normal folks." And my "normal folks," I mean the folks who actually read for pleasure.
Writing was one of the ways I learned to read and express myself. Now I do it because it is a wonderfully pleasurable thing to do. I am not actually "inspired to write," but writing is what inspires me.

I am working on a number of books. I keep hearing folks talk about "writer's block." That has never happened to me, because, frankly, I write more than one thing at a time. If I hit a roadblock on one story, I can let it percolate in the back of my head while I start writing on another one.
Currently, I am working on:
The Bishop's Wife: This is a "side-quel" to Dr. Haydee Dabritz's trilogy. It will fit between the first and second book, coming at the story from the side -- hence the term.
Scenes from the Train: I have been commuting into San Francisco via the train for around four years. This is an accumulation of stories and events I have seen from this.
VampDiaries: Where did the whole hooha about vampires come from? Is there some evidence for individuals which could be them? What if someone actually met one of these folks? This is NOT just another vampire book, it is a book about history, science, religion, all told from the perspective of someone who lived through it all in the first instance. My "true love" is history and archeology. This is where they come together.
The Computer Hacker: I am collecting the last five years of the articles -- the good ones, that is, into one volume. Mostly for historical purposes.
And When They were come Unto the Cross: This will be a sequel to my first book, And When They were come Unto the House. It will happen thirty years after the first one started. The first one was the "wise men" coming to the house to see the Christ child. The sequel will be when they return to visit during the last week of Christ's life.
My Magnum Opus; forty years in the making: This is an autobiographical work, talking about my current and recent positions, what it takes to do my job (and what my job is), with recollections going back to the early days of the computer industry to show how things have changed.
My current "to do" list of books has twenty-one titles in it. These are just the ones I am currently adding text to.

For a number of years, I did a fireside meeting sometime after Thanksgiving on the "Real story of Christmas." It brought together pieces of the story from people around the world -- the star, for instance, truly was a global phenomenon.
People kept telling me I needed to write a book. The problem is "battling archeologists." If you quote X, then everyone who likes Y will call you an idiot. Ditto with Y and X's folks. So I could simply never find enough authoritative sources to use, especially since I really was picking from X and Y (and A and B, etc) to pull my presentation together. So I gave up. After stewing on it for a decade, the suggestion came to write it as historical fiction -- that way I could "tell my story" without having to deal with the headaches that stopped me.
This is one piece to the bigger puzzle -- but it tells enough to get the point across.
