Jerry L. Martin Thanks for your question, Mary. The first thing to remember is that God is already communicating with you. It may be through the inner recesses of your own thoughts, or through a task put in your path, or through something a friend says to you, or through sensing the divine presence in a thing of beauty or a scene of death or just at times you are quiet with your own thoughts and feelings. For these moments, the key is to pay attention, notice the divine aspect, trust that you have some instincts for acting in concert with God. For conversation, I recommend writing a letter to God or a prayer. Sit down quietly and don't just do it on the fly. Tell God how it is with you, or ask God a question, ask what God wants of you, and then write down the words that come to you as if God were speaking to you. You have no way of knowing for sure, but it may be that there is some divine input there. If you do this regularly, the divine element is likely to become clearer over time. If you try this method, let me know how well it works for you. You might also post on the God: An Autobiography website.
