I get to create worlds and stories that take readers out of their normal lives. If you're reading a book about a sunny day and you forget it's raining outside, then the author has done his/her job.

I take a break from writing, even just for a day or two. I let the ideas marinate in my head. When I return, I just begin to do a rough draft, putting every idea (even the ridiculous) down on paper, then I sift through them.

Some of my family members have been involved in missions trips to Haiti. The idea for this story originally came to me as I was preparing to do a short article on a trip to Haiti by my father and brother-in-law.
