Phil Ament I have always been a sifi reader since my teen age days. Eventually, story ideas started popping into my head. I had no idea how much work it takes to write a full length story until I was a few chapters into my first completed book. Now I can't stop. Its an obsession.
Phil Ament I am currently working on two stories. One is about a teen age girl's adventure escaping from a back water ag planet where your only future is working in the fields. The other story is about a therapist who is abducted while on a camping hike to be trained as a pet for an alien race. It turns out, aliens need therapy to.
Phil Ament I'll tell you the same thing a successful sifi writer told me. Write at least one page a day, every day, no excuses. This is the same advice he received when he first started his writing career.
Phil Ament A writer has the potential to be able to live anywhere. As an engineer, I always had to live in or near high tech cities. That freedom was a big motivator to become a writer.
Phil Ament I sit down and write one word, any word, it doesn't matter. Then I add a word. I try to put myself mentally in the scene and then describe it. I find most of my writer's block is actually procrastination. I always have something like a chore that needs to be done first.
