Timothy C. Doyle Don't do what I do in my answer to "What is the best thing about being a writer?"

Also:
1) If you are writing a book for publication, really do your homework on your genre. This includes basics like researching target audience, identifying the correct word count, etc.
2) Think about formatting. Just about everyone who touches your book (from editors to agents to Amazon) will want the book in a specific format. It's best to have an idea of this before you write your entire novel in 8pt Chiller font with single line spacing.
3) Hire an editor and edit the book even before you start querying agents (if you are going the traditional publishing route).
4) Enjoy the process of writing. Think about the items above, but don't get hung up on them.

Timothy C. Doyle I stare into the mirror and repeat "you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you..." over and over and over.
Timothy C. Doyle Good point, Jamie. I forgot all about the cookbook! I need to get the meatball recipe into more kitchens. For reminding me, I'll add you to the Acknowledgements section...
