I've just started writing my second Tommy Turner book. I know he has a lot more adventures to go on - at the moment they are in my head but hopefully within the next couple of months I will have my first draft.

Just go for it! Self publishing is hard work and you have to dedicate yourself 100%. In a way, writing and publishing is the easy part as it's creative and what you enjoy doing but promoting and marketing the book is equally important and hugely time consuming. I would also suggest that you invest in a good editor, who will give you honest advice.

Being able to lose myself in the writing and let my imagination fly whichever way it wants to. I really enjoy writing dialogue and taking time to understand and feel internally how the character would be feeling and what they would thinking.
But there is nothing better than having someone say that they love my story, especially if it's a child. To think that my words and characters have given someone pleasure is truly amazing.

I try to write a little every day even if I don't like what is coming out onto the page. Often when you come back to look at the words you can find the missing nuances that were so elusive when you first tried to write them. I find that often parts of the plot come to me at times when I can't sit and write and I like to mull them over and develop them in my mind until I can find time to get to a pen and paper.

I loved the idea of having a simple, ordinary object - a t-shirt - being Tommy’s portal into his adventures: sometimes in life the most unassuming things are the ones that give the greatest joy. I also wanted Tommy to learn skills while he is time-travelling that he could use to help him overcome the problems he’s having in his real life.
