As someone in the non-fiction world, I have to be interested and intrigued in order to take on a subject. I like to read about current events and news analysis within my area of interest. When it comes to online issues and online reputation, it is constantly evolving, so I'm constantly intrigued.

One thing I like about being a writer is that there is always room for improvement. You are never finished being a writer. While you may create something great, there is always a new opportunity and a new chance to write something completely different -- yet equally good.

I was working with a client that had an online issue and the more I researched the world of online reputation, the more fascinated I became. I started writing blog posts about it and then was asked to give a presentation. I quickly realized that my "talk" could be a book, so I started on the journey. I took it one step at a time and now we have "How to Protect (or Destroy) Your Reputation Online."

For me the best cure for writer's block is to get something on the page, whether you like it or not. I have said many times that one of the most daunting challenges is to stare at a blank page, knowing that you have to fill it with something meaningful. Sometimes I create and outline but most often I just start putting my thoughts on the page, even if they are very rough. If I can get a concept to take some shape, then I get inspired and turn it into something more meaningful.
