Thank you for reading my essays, Vicki. My writing is my refuge. I've discovered I need to protect segments of my life to honor that. Often, an image, memory or idea will pop into head while I'm exercising or walking. Then, I jot it down. Each blog post takes two to three hours. I'm trying to discipline myself to write for longer stretches to work on a novel. All the best to you. I hope you are feeling fulfilled with your writing.

Hi Vicki! No, I won't be at Desert Hills. I'm singing in a choral concert that weekend. If you know of other book festivals in the area this summer, please let me know. I'd love to participate!

First, it's so great to hear from you, Vicki. Writing was my salvation last year. Somehow I mustered the focus and energy to complete and publish my fourth book, "I Think I'll Prune the Lemon Tree", which includes essays about Arizona and living in Coronaville ... that global place that became all-too familiar for everyone. I think you would enjoy reading it. Hope to see you at the next author event ... whenever that may be!

I'm currently writing a collection of essays about the happiest moments from my Missouri youth.

Make your writing a regular practice. Create a small space in your home that is devoted to your writing. When you are in the early stages of the writing process, hold tight to your words, ideas and creative convictions. If gathering feedback is important to you, wait until your first draft is complete. Then, share it with a few trusted friends who are your creative allies.

Writing brings me joy and comfort. It is my creative sanctuary. When I write, I am happiest exploring the beauty of nature and the most meaningful moments and people in my life,

After my mother died in early 2013, I began to sift the mountain of wisdom-filled letters she sent me over the last twenty years of her life. About that time, I also rediscovered my grandfather's diaries he left behind -- more than fifty years of daily entries about his life as a North Carolina farmer. At that point, I was inspired to tell my own story of grief. My artistic solution was the creation of my book: From Fertile Ground. It's a writer's mosaic that weaves together all three of our stories.
