T.L. Kole I watch lots of interviews on youtube about different people from all parts of the world and on certain days when I wake up and think what should I write today? I remember one of the stories I heard maybe five years ago about some kind of amazing event or romance story and I start basing my writing on that adding my own details and emotions and etc.
T.L. Kole Just remember what Van Gogh said once: "If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. Vincent Van Gogh
T.L. Kole Being completely alone in your own world and know that you're not wasting that time, but doing something productive.
T.L. Kole I focus on research for something intersting to add to my story and that additional information inspires me. Also, I don't write a summary of my novel before I write my novel, I leave that energy for the novel. I believe when you write about your novel or making synopsis before writing your novel you give away precious energy.
T.L. Kole I started working on sequel to Trembling Leaf tentatively called When Monarchs Dance and a historical novel about WWII, but because I'm presently expecting my second child I decided to put on hold my writing because I tend to write about human suffering and as a result get emotional myself. In a mean while I work on children's picture book and non-fiction book.
T.L. Kole When I was in my early teens I read a novel ( I don't even recall the name of it ) where husband left his very much loved and beautiful wife because he thought she cheated on him. Much later on in his life he hired a young doctor as a provider for his daughter. Once while he was talking to the doctor, a photo slipped from doctor's wallet and the man noticed the photo and grew pale. "Who's that?" he asked the doctor.
"My mother," the doctor replied, picking up the photo. That's when the man realized that the doctor is his son.
I always remembered that moment and always wished that the husband and wife can meet again. But in that story the wife passed away when the doctor was in his teens.
As for my main heroine's story I got inspired when I was watching either Tyra Banks or maybe another similar show where one African American lady in her thirties shared that all her life she was a black sheep in her family. I felt the woman's pain and cried because it was truly tragic that this lady was successsful, beautiful and yet rejected by her family. Her pain affected me so much that I decided to write about it.
