Distraction. Although honestly, for me, it's less about "block" and more about "lazy". I tend to suffer from writer's nap. Writing is hard, I'm too tired, blah, blah, blah. But I find if I can distract myself from what's hard with something fresh and new, it oftentimes leads me back to the original work, on the other side of the block.

IDEAS! I have so many ideas--all of the time--if I didn't write them down I might lose them. (I lose a lot.) Ideas and curiosity...what next? Why? How? and of course, Who? (My stories are very character driven.) I love sitting down at the keyboard, or with pen and a notebook, and following the clues laid before me.

About ten years ago, I was thinking about gang initiations and the crazy, dangerous, cruel things gang members will do to "fit in". Then I wondered, how far would regular everyday people go to prove themselves? It started out small, mugging someone for their "pocket money" and grew from there.
