The advance in technology is a never ending evolution. No matter what, technology and the human drive to advance in all aspects is something that should be applauded and supported in every way possible. The growing number of people who haven't read a book recently, especially in the US, is indeed troubling. I do feel however, that advances in technology is not necessarily a bad thing for the book industry. As authors, the platforms that we are able to have access today gives us the ability to reach more people than ever before. We have never seen the level of ease for readers to access the written word. Authors, just as technology, must evolve to keep up. Evolution is something that I attempt in my publishing. By offering a short story released on a weekly basis, I intend to mimic the same feeling as a television series. Each short story typically takes about an hour to read, or the length of something people are familiar with, a television show. I feel we as authors should play an active role in exploring new avenues in inciting those who have not read books recently, to get back into the habit.

The only thing that I have discovered to break through a block is to write. It doesn't matter what it is about, just write. Start a journal, write down any ideas you have floating around in your head, or just do some free writing rambling about anything. Soon enough, the block will crumble and the ideas will be flowing.

This is something that I recently discussed on my Facebook. One of the best parts about starting out as an indie author is meeting new people. Making a connection. I have met so many people on this journey so far, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Inspiration is everywhere. From the television shows we watch to the games we play, ideas and inspiration is all around us. My second short story series came from a conversation I had with a friend, joking about Dungeons and Dragons.

The answer to this will constantly be changing. Working on my weekly short story series, outlining the next, working on marketing my novel that will be coming out August of 2016, and needing to get back to work on my science fiction series A Z-Grav Marine's Chronicle. There is a lot going on. You can always stop by my website (thejamespatrick.com) for the most up to date details on projects, release dates and my blog of course.

Never stop writing! It doesn't matter if you are outlining, drafting, polishing or blogging, never stop. Getting started as an author, especially an indie author, is not easy nor will it happen over night. It takes work. Don't be afraid to ask for help. But most of all, never stop writing.
