Kristen Mae My favorite starting point for a novel or really anything I write is a feeling. With my current work, Red Water, the premise came to me while I was at a concert to see the local symphony play. The music was so hauntingly beautiful that it felt like desperation, like wanting to feel everything all at once while simultaneously wanting to end it all. So that's what Red Water is.
Kristen Mae My second book, working title Red Water, due out March 2017.
Kristen Mae Start with Stephen King's On Writing and go from there.
Kristen Mae Getting my ideas out of my head. I have always had thoughts in my head that I wanted to share with people but was too afraid or shy to. Writing is how I share with people.
Kristen Mae Maybe it's dangerous to say this "out loud," but I have never had writer's block. My brain is a petri dish of ideas and the truth is that I have more ideas than I could ever turn into books. If I get stuck on a scene or plot point it never lasts more than a day or two, and the way I break through it is to write the first thing that comes to mind, even it feels like horrible writing. I tell myself that once I get flowing, the words will come easier, and I can always come back and edit or delete if what I've written doesn't turn out how I'd hoped. :)
