When I was a university student in Ottawa, I went home for the break. When I returned there was a mail notification for a package from Montreal. I don't have any relatives in Montreal, I have never set foot in that fantastic city. So who was sending me a package? I went to claim it and because it took so long for me to find out, it was returned to the sender. I will forever wonder who sent that package, and what was in it?

Well, I tend to read more adventure, mystery, or thriller books, so my selection is limited. I CAN say that one of the more fascinating couples for me was in Anne Rice's highly underrated book, "The Mummy." The relationship between the ancient Ramses and the modern Julie was interesting on many levels.
Similarly, I really liked the bizarre relationship between Akasha and Lestat in "Queen of the Damned." She was powerful, beautiful, and insane. He was incorrigible and entertaining. A doomed relationship but interesting all the same!
Thanks for the question!

I try to have an interesting start to every chapter, but once in a while...I'm stuck. I just write the chapter and go back and review it. Writing a chapter you know stinks doesn't feel very good, but I find my mind works on the shortcomings as I sleep on it. A few revisions on the chapter later, it's much better. I'm lucky, writer's block is real but it never lasts long for me.

Hearing positive feedback and knowing someone enjoyed your work. It's a great connection with another person and it can only really be done with writing. I love to tell a story!

Learn how a good narrative works. What are it's elements? Characters, problem-solution, setting, dialogue...all of these things are important. If you're an avid reader you probably have learned more than you know! Lastly, write the book that you would want to read. That's what I did!

The sequel to "Merrett's Gift". It's called, "Merrett's Choice." A lot of action and intrigue. More than a few surprises! Just editing it before submitting it to my publisher.

I start thinking about my characters (they are rich and interesting) and what would challenge them. What problem could they encounter or overcome? I pay attention to current events and I listen to what my students talk about.

I work with amazing young men and women and I was constantly impressed with what they could accomplish. I started writing it to show my students how a narrative works. 120,000 words later...we had a book!
