It started as a single book, and has become three. It is a trilogy called Shades and Shadows. It is set in modern America, where racism and violence has found a target in a race called Shades, long thought to be just myth, when a serial killer is discovered to be a Shade.
The main characters are a Shade and a psychic who are thrown together, become lovers, and get torn apart in a world that is falling apart around them as a second civil war rips the country into pieces.

Almost anything and everything is inspiration. My mind is constantly churning out characters and worlds and what if scenarios. It can pick up an accent, a turn of phrase, a location...just about anything and it will start something. I sometimes have friends try to stump me by giving me random things to fit into a story.
Say, give me a character, a location and two objects...and I will tell you that character's story...or part of it. Sometimes it blooms into something more than a game, sometimes it is just something to keep the skills sharp.

My most recent release, Forever, began as a series of short stories in my teens. I was writing for friends and family and needed a short story to round out my collection. I started with the language, a sort of gothic sounding, elegant voice I had never tried before, and it was rather like stepping into a character when acting. Then, I just let the character talk.
What followed was the story of a vampire who had lost her love and lost her mind, ending up in an asylum. That was the start of Forever.
