I think if you can practice being present, you will see the miraculous all around us - whether it is someone picking up money someone else lost, or someone giving you a smile on a down day -- love is present all around us and expressions of love inspire me.

My mom passed away from ovarian cancer and I made her a promise - that her death would make as big of a difference as her life. Most ovarian cancers, including hers, are caught too late for someone to survive past five years. I thought if I write this book and ONE woman brings her symptoms to her doctor early enough and we save ONE life, then my mom's death made as big of a difference as her life.

Writing about topics that really speak to my heart and make a difference for other people. I love when other people can see themselves in my writing and get something from it - whether it is simply being entertained or they have a new way to look at the world.

I just start writing anything. When I began writing I used a recommendation from The Artist's Way -- write three pages every morning. So when I get writer's block, I often JUST START WRITING - anything including "this is stupid, this shouldn't be this hard, why can't I think of anything etc." Often what I find is that I will start writing something - it may not be what I had intended to write - it could be a new blog post, or a joke. But once that is written then the rest of the ideas start flowing. It's as if my soul knows what it wants to write.
