Dealing with writer's block can be frustrating. But I'm sure as any writer would tell you, time away from your work can be most helpful. Let your mind relax and become distracted. Who knows, what you experience in your time away from the computer may spark some creative ideas for your book!

The best thing about being a writer is that no matter what, my ideas and my opinions matter. I can create, imagine, and dream, all within my words.

My advice to aspiring writers is to never doubt yourself! It took me ten years to finish Upon Blue Mountain, I went through high school, different part time jobs, college, and ultimately growing up, many distractions to say the least! But no matter what I went through, my passion was always invested in this story, and it was my biggest dream to one day publish it. It is important to never give up on yourself, and if you have doubts, understand that it is only because you care so much about your work, for it is a part of you! Just push through it, and know that only you can make your dreams come true.

I find that a motivating soundtrack gets my creative juices flowing. I grew up in love with music, I participated in any and all bands and orchestras my schools had to offer. (I played the trumpet!) Classical and epic scores seem to take my mind into the most imaginative places.

Upon Blue Mountain began as a completely different story back when I was in 8th grade! As anyone can imagine, my creative mind was not as developed as it is now. I entered a prose contest, and after winning second place, my interest in story-telling surfaced. I hand-wrote a version of my book, and ten years later, the only aspect that remained was my title. Ultimately, the idea for my book came from my title itself. I began with the creation of my world, Everrise, and thought about the different landscapes each of the Mountain Kingdoms had to offer those living there. Where a person lives has an effect on who they are in some way. So I decided to create unique landscapes with unique people, monsters, and beliefs. From there, many ideas for conflict and heroism brewed within my mind, and spilled out onto the page.
