Brooke C. Obie Outlining can save your book and your life! Make a roadmap for where your character arcs and plot are going. It's okay if you meander or end up changing directions, but having a plan helps you to get what you need down on the page.
Brooke C. Obie During Christmas vacation from my MFA program, I intended to write the second half of my novel, or at least get near to the end, and for the entire month of December 2013, I couldn't write anything at all. Instead of getting frustrated, I bought some easels and oil paint and began painting scenes from my novel. When I wasn't painting, I was doing a 1000-piece puzzle of downtown NYC and the new Freedom Tower. The entire time I was thinking about my book and what I wanted to say. By the time I got back to school, I was ready to write, the block released and I turned in my finished first draft as my thesis for graduation! Don't be discouraged by writer's block. Do something creative, give yourself space and time. When the words are ready, they'll let you know.
