As a journalist its the challenge of capturing the essence of an event. As a blogger it's being able to reach deep into one's own soul to connect with others. As a novelist it's the sheer joy of story telling, participating in a human ritual that predates the written word.

I invariably go into denial and do all sorts of neglected chores until I'm exhausted. Only then do I acknowledge the problem and kickstart the writing process which has little to do with creativity. It's a long slow climb back to the writing routine that others manage so much better than I do.

I was the international media liaison person for an Archbishop for 7 years and often saw him juggle world issues with personal challenges. (Not that Shakes is based on him) I also found the politics of church interesting, sometimes unholy and often inspiring. I should add that the idea came from the mismanagement of our national electricity utility, a disturbing increase of corruption in our corridors of power and talk of a nuclear deal with Russia.
