In my opinion, one of the biggest mistakes aspiring authors make is not sketching their books before they begin writing them. If you have a book sketch, writer's block won't be as big an issue. There is nothing that forces us to write the book in a linear fashion. When I felt blocked at a certain point in RHOB1, I'd just skip ahead to another part and write that. It gave me a nice change of pace and often stimulated new ideas.
